Sunseeker selects Peters & May for shipment of latest superyacht
Peters & May, world leader in the provision of marine logistics, has arranged the shipment of Sunseeker’s latest superyacht destined for East Asia. The stunning Sunseeker 34 Metre will be the first of the UK’s famous south coast boat builder’s new super yacht to arrive in Hong Kong. “There has been a significant rise in the number of boat shipments that Peters & May has carried out over the last year. Shipping yachts of all shapes and sizes requires a wealth of experience and a great deal of care. However when shipping a 34 metre yacht a significant amount of planning and preparation is needed to ensure each stage is safely and efficiently carried out. For example, for a yacht of this size we provide specialist cradles which are enormous and therefore require very particular transport and handling to ensure they are in place and correctly set up ready for the shipment. We also send a team of boat loaders and surveyors to the port of loading, along with the required beams and slings needed, which will enable the lift to be accomplished successfully. We are in contact with the port planners and operators weeks in advance to arrange the lifting and ensure that the operation is properly carried out. The specific nature of this particular project meant that we required two floating cranes to load the yacht. “In preparation for the lift, divers carefully positioned the slings so that the high load involved was safely distributed and no underwater parts were snagged. We also had independent surveyors on hand to ensure all procedures were carried out correctly prior to the ship’s departure. This is standard procedure for the shipments we carry and we also ensure that our personnel are trained to the highest standard, especially when handling such a large and complicated movement,” says Gerald Price, Peters & May Ltd. Peters & May handles the entire transportation process and co-ordinates between suppliers and customer to ensure a smooth and safe transportation. The Sunseeker 34 Metre will take the Maersk Line’s Rotterdam to Far East route, via the Mediterranean before arriving in Hong Kong where Peters & May’s own professional boat handlers will oversee loading and discharge. The shipment of the new Sunseeker 34 Metre is the latest in a line of Peters & May deliveries to East Asia, which include a five vessel delivery on a single sailing of Maersk Line’s Rotterdam to Far East route. One of the five yachts delivered during this sailing was a factory delivery of a new Sunseeker 30 Metre superyacht to Hong Kong. Extensive projects such as this support Peters & May’s position as a preferred supplier to Sunseeker and other global boat and yacht manufacturers. Peters & May is Maersk Lines’ largest client in Northern Europe, based on the volume of break bulk cargo (non container freight) shipped and the two companies have worked together for 15 years. A key benefit of using Peters & May to handle the delivery process to East Asia is that the company is able to offer regular and reliable sailings with a definite transit time due to its strong links with Maersk Line. Peters & May handles thousands of shipments around the world and will provide transportation solutions for the smallest sports boat to the largest, multi-million pound superyacht. Peters & May has over 30 years experience in the provision of marine logistics and offers global boat transportation and freight forwarding via air, road, rail and sea from a global network of twelve offices and numerous exclusive agencies. The company ships 8000 vessels through more than 150 ports in over 60 countries and is the preferred shipper to many of the world’s leading boat builders, including Correct Craft Inc, Gulf Craft, Sunseeker and Viking Yacht Company.
