The Boat Parade and Team Racing are among the selection of boating activities taking place at this year’s PSP Southampton Boat Show. The UK’s leading outdoor boat show returns to Mayflower Park from 16 – 25 September, showcasing exciting boating spectacles and a selection of unusual and exciting feature boats, including a research vessel and the infamous yacht Gipsy Moth.

Murray Ellis, Managing Director of National Boat Shows said: “We’ve got an exciting line up of on-water activity at this year’s PSP Southampton Boat Show, with many new additions. The Boat Parade and Team Racing will offer some great action whilst the selection of feature boats will provide our visitors with a fascinating insight into both the history and future of boating; from the huge historical significance of HMS Medusa to the pioneering work of science boat Callista. We are looking forward to the atmosphere that these extraordinary boats will bring to Mayflower Park.”

Boat Parade

See many of the Show’s impressive feature boats and more taking part in the daily Boat Parade. Every day a flotilla of boats, modern, vintage and iconic will cruise the marina whilst a commentator provides information about the boats, their history and innovations. Once you’ve seen them sailing by, head down to the marina to climb aboard.

HMS Bulwark

Measuring a staggering 176 metres long, HMS Bulwark is a sight you can’t miss! This Albion-class Landing Platform Dock can reach up to 18 knots, has extensive armament and weighs approximately 21,500 tonnes, making her one of the most exciting feature boats ever to come to the south coast Show. Visitors will be able to climb aboard, talk to the crew and explore this astounding ship; experiencing first-hand the incredible history of the UK’s oldest service branch.

· HMS Bulwark will be on display in Solent Park from 22 – 25 September and the Royal Navy can be found on stand C15O in Solent Hall.

Team Racing

On Saturday 17 September, some of the best teams from across the country will be doing battle right in the heart of the Show, with coaching legend Jim Saltonstall commentating to make sure you can follow the action. In association with Yachts & Yachting and thanks to Rockley Watersports and RS Sailing for providing all of the equipment.

Yachting Monthly’s Crash Test Boat

In a ground-breaking new series of articles, Yachting Monthly magazine has been testing to destruction a second-hand 40ft Jeanneau Sun Fizz 40 ketch. Over the summer, the yacht was capsized through 360 degrees, holed below the waterline, dismasted and subjected to fires in the engine room and galley, as well as seacock failure and prop shaft leaks.

· The Crash Test Boat will be on display at Berth M541.

HMS Medusa

HMS Medusa, originally ML1387, is a Harbour Defence Motor Launch built in Poole in 1943. She is now the last original and operational example of nearly 500 that were built to protect ports and anchorages from incursion by German submarines. Medusa had a lead role in the war before spending time with the Royal Navy Reserves and the hydrographic service; and over the last four years has had an extensive refit, costing £1.5m mainly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

· HMS Medusa will be on display at Berth M543.

Callista

Science ship Callista invites curious minds of all ages to explore underwater life. Don’t miss the unique hands-on opportunity to see, feel and touch the fascinating ‘other’ world of life beneath the ocean. Experience real experiments, see live specimens and play with the on board gadgets of the University of Southampton’s research vessel.

· Callista will be on display at Berth M542.

BananaShark

Devon built, BananaShark, Stirling 34 was designed and built as a racing machine capable of racing in the National Marathon series and next year will compete in the Round Britain race where overall performance and a high average speed are the most important considerations. At over 39’ long and powered by two very economical Yanmar 260hp engines derived from the current 3 litre BMW engine and coupled to the Arneson surface drives means this boat is capable of over 70mph speeds.

· BananaShark will be on display at Berth M542.

Gipsy Moth

The historic yacht Gipsy Moth IV, on which Sir Francis Chichester sailed single-handed around the world in 1966-7, is now used to allow young people to sail. Owing to the generosity of her owners, the boat is to be retained and preserved as a key part of the country’s national maritime heritage. Gipsy Moth IV is managed by UKSA and focuses on changing lives through maritime activity, including working with young people who would not normally have access to sailing.

· Gipsy Moth will be on display between 16 -17 and 21 – 22 September.

Challenge Wales

Show visitors will have the opportunity to climb aboard an impressive 72 foot round-the-world racing yacht owned by Challenge Wales. She has previously competed in the world’s toughest yacht races, covering some 29,000 nautical miles while weathering 50 foot waves and winds of up to 60 knots. The yacht is now operated by Challenge Wales to provide training and development opportunities for young people, helping them learn life skills through team work and communication.

Challenge Wales will be on display on 21 and 22 September.

Manhattan 53 at this year’s PSP Southampton Boat Show (available to view on stand C040). The new Manhattan 53 is stylish and versatile combining all the attributes of a performance motoryacht.

An evolution of the Sunseeker flybridge sports yacht tradition, it is the latest, cutting-edge addition to the Manhattan range, and will be making its world debut consecutively at both Cannes and Southampton International Boat Shows. Following the unprecedented success of the Manhattan 52, the new Manhattan 53 offers increased space, volume and versatility. Sunseeker’s designers have been extremely careful to ensure a similarly optimised blend between interior layout, exterior social areas and overall proportions. The exterior styling is unmistakably Sunseeker, and the new, fresh approach to the interior décor brings the Manhattan 53 up to date with the very latest in fabrics and finishes.

Thanks to the latest design software, and use of a full size interior mock-up, every inch of interior space has been well thought through, and optimised to ensure the best possible use of space. The brand new hull design has been developed to provide increased beam lower accommodation, whilst still providing a sport boat feel coupled with safe, sure and predictable handling. This is further enhanced with the latest navigation equipment, the all weather convenience of twin helms and a crew cabin that offers a surprising amount of space over her predecessor.

Providing unlimited open-air fun and sumptuous accommodation, the Manhattan 53 will be just at home in more Northern climates as well as the Mediterranean. With an emphasis on fun with comfort this yacht delivers the excitement of Sunseeker’s true inimitable style.

James Powell, International Sales Manager at British luxury motor yacht manufacturer, Fairline Boats, enthuses: “We set off touring the western Mediterranean in July in the lead-up to autumn European boat show season and could not have anticipated the overwhelming reception we received bay hopping along the coast. Thousands of people have been onboard, marvelling at the boat, the layout, the three cabin accommodation, power windows, sliding roof, and Tender Launch System in particular.

“One customer, who had only seen the Targa 58 GT on the web just recently when looking for a new boat, was quite amazed when we drove past him and anchored in Santa Ponsa where he was able to step onboard to take a closer look.”

The Targa 58 tour included visits to Spanish mainland, the islands of Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca, the south coast of France and north western Italy.

M/Y Prima was built for a Shipping Company, owner of Columbus Yacht brand. At the moment, another 55m yacht is under construction and the designing of other models ranging from 38m to 75m, with steel hull are being designed by Sergio Cutolo especially for Palumbo. The technical launch of this beautiful Superyacht was attended by local Authorities, shipyard workers, national and international brokers and specialist press. The technical launch of M/Y “Prima” represents an important goal for Palumbo, that last year acquired two Shipyards in Malta, one of them fully dedicated to superyachts refitting.

Palumbo Group is very proud to have achieved this goal and to have built its first Yacht entirely with local workers at the highest quality standards and advanced technology in the field and would like to thank all those who have participated and have made possible this unique project realized in the south central part of Italy, showing the excellence achieved.

The M/Y “Prima” was designed by Sergio Cutolo (Hydrotech Naval Architecture) and the interior design by Tommaso Spadolini (Spadolini Studio Design), international well known names in the field in the designing of luxury mega yachts.

Precious materials, construction standards, the most advanced technology and the obtained classification create a Yacht modern, luxurious, comfortable and environmentally friendly with low power consumption and reduction of noise and of environmental pollution.

The idea of Columbus Yacht, was to create a yacht with a classic look with retained precise proportions without excessive élans with some elements that help give her a distinctive appeal, like the curved upper deck windows.

The sun deck on the flybridge offers a large circular pool, and there is another conversation area in the open air on the forward upper deck.

For the interior design a geometric style was chosen expressed in large spaces offering outstanding comfort and practicality throughout, and where any possible restricted, uncomfortable areas have been eliminated therefore with a design that remains elegant and attractive offering in the same time also intense functionality. Leit motiv is the phrasing of the bright ceiling colours, intersected by darker wood panels, and the brown of the Italian walnut floors, with inserts of calacatta oro marble.

M/Y “Prima” has a full displacement of about 700t, six staterooms including full beam Owner’s cabin with balcony and VIP cabin on the bridge deck. Exceptional volume from her 10.2m beam, large common areas and massive internal volumes are the main characteristic of Prima.

12 Sleeps guests and 12 sleeps in crew in six double crew staterooms plus Captain’s cabin. In the Sun Deck, a large Jacuzzi is well exposed on the sun pad island and there is a bar inboard of the crews’ staircase down to the bridge deck pantry.

Prima was built in compliance with the Rules of ABS and she is suitable for unrestricted navigation with following class notation Maltese Cross A1, Yachting Service, UMS. She also obtained RINA Green plus as an additional notation class.

Sealine is to launch their new C48 Coupe at the Southampton Boat Show. This ground breaking modern design is the ultimate solution to “turn-key” boating. There are no covers to undo or canopies to unfurl. The helm and saloon are fully enclosed by a signature wrap around screen with an electric sunroof providing full or partial access to the elements. Sliding patio doors link the cockpit to the saloon, creating the largest single social space for a boat of this size. A modern IPS drive system offers exceptional fuel efficiency and manoeuvrability, as well as enabling a full beam, full height master cabin. The C48 is a true cruising boat that allows you to escape and explore in style.

“We are delighted to be launching the C48 alongside our new SC42, the second new model for 2011 and an important part of our investment strategy of creating eight new boats in three years. Continuing Sealine’s unique approach to luxury, modern design, this new coupe has many innovative features. With its temperature controlled environment the C48 is ideally suited to a number of boating regions including the Mediterranean, Asia, the Middle East, North America and Scandinavia” commented Chris O’Connor, Sealine’s Managing Director.

The Saloon has a large L shaped seating area plus three stools, to allow six to relax and dine in comfort. There is a removable table which can be transferred to the aft cockpit, along with the stools, to provide alfresco dining for six. An integrated wet bar, grill and barbecue, plus a sink with hot and cold water, are provided for easy outdoor entertaining.

The raised helm has four individual sports seats. There is a folding chart table and plenty of storage. The large wrap around windscreen provides stunning panoramic views. On the port side there is fully fitted open plan galley complete with fridge, integrated oven and hob and enough space for a washing machine and large refrigeration unit.

The light and airy forward cabin is extremely spacious with a double bed and TV unit located opposite. There are separate ensuite shower and toilet compartments plus plenty of stowage. Due to the position of the forward bulk head, the midship master cabin has full headroom across the width of the cabin with a comfortable walk around area and panoramic hull windows.

Two full length wardrobes offer generous space and there is an en-suite with a separate shower cubicle. The third cabin has two bunks and lots of storage. The interiors have been finished using a natural light oak

For keeping cool in the cockpit an optional electric sunshade can be added.

There is also an optional hi-lo platform system capable of deploying a large tender system. Generous storage includes a large lazarette which can be converted into a crew cabin if required. An optional electrically operated passerelle provides easy access to and from the boat.

The hull is based on the proven SC47’s hull design and is fitted with Volvo’s IPS 600 pod drives with joy stick control. When compared to traditional stern drive models of this size, the C48 can offer fuel savings of between 25- 35%.

The C48 will be priced from £392,000 excluding VAT.

The 2011 Freelander 2 model range, on sale in the UK from the end of September 2010, benefits from a new 2.2-litre diesel engine available with either 150PS or 190PS outputs, a new look exterior plus interior alterations including new instrument dials and a new Premium Pack option.

Land Rover’s new turbo diesel engine is available in the 4WD TD4 150PS model featuring a manual transmission and intelligent Stop/Start technology as standard (an automatic gearbox without Stop/Start is available as a cost option), or the new SD4 model delivering 190PS (available in automatic transmission only).

This new engine is quieter, more efficient and both derivatives have 20Nm more torque than the outgoing engine. This means the 2011 Freelander 2 offers improved engine response and more mid-range strength for towing. CO2 emissions have been significantly reduced to 165g/km and 185g/km respectively with corresponding fuel economy benefits.

However, despite reductions in consumption and emissions, there has been no compromise in performance. The flagship 190PS Freelander SD4 accelerates from rest to 60mph in 8.7 seconds with an increased top speed of 118mph. The Freelander 150PS TD4 manual and automatic versions match the performance of their predecessors.

As well as being upgraded from EU4 to EU5, both versions have a new variable geometry turbocharger and have been extensively re-calibrated to deliver new levels of power, meet emissions regulations and reduce CO2 emissions. They are fitted with a catalysed diesel particulate filter as standard and are now compatible with 10 per cent biodiesel rather than 5 per cent.

As an addition to the Freelander 2 range, Land Rover will also offer customers a 2WD derivative, available in the UK from January 2011. This will be called the Freelander 2 eD4 and it will be the most efficient Land Rover ever produced, with fuel consumption of 47.2mpg combined, and CO2 emissions of just 158g/km.

“The new Freelander 2 eD4 moves Land Rover into the hugely popular and fiercely contested two wheel-drive SUV market,” said Land Rover managing director Phil Popham. “The European market for two-wheel drive SUVs represents 23 percent of the segment and we intend to compete strongly here.

“A 2WD option is just one way in which we are developing our vehicles’ efficiency whilst adding to the Land Rover range and expanding our appeal to a broader group of customers. We will continue to make the ‘world’s finest all-terrain vehicles’ for those customers who require 4WD but will also now offer an alternative.”

This groundbreaking Freelander 2 eD4 is powered by the new 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine, delivering 150PS. It is only available with a six-speed manual transmission featuring Stop/Start technology as standard.

The exterior of the latest Freelander 2 gets a new look for 2011. Marked out by a new front bumper assembly incorporating new front fog lap bezels, a new front grille finish, improved headlights and tail lamps, new full width tailgate appliqué and new 18- or 19-inch alloy wheel styles. There are three new colour schemes for 2011 Kosrae Green, Baltic Blue and Fuji White.

Inside the cabin, Land Rover’s design team have revised the instrument dials, and there are four new seat styles with the option of a Premium Pack that includes Windsor Leather upholstery, an 8/6 way electric seat, plus premium carpet mats and covered centre stowage.

The 4WD TD4 and SD4 models are on sale in the UK from the end of September.

Prices are as follows:

Derivative Drivetrain £OTR

150PS Manual

TD4 S manual* 4WD £21,695

TD4 GS manual* 4WD £24,995

TD4 XS manual* 4WD £28,495

Making her first appearance at the PSP Southampton Boat Show, the magnificent Fairline Targa 58 GRAN TURISMO is a spacious three cabin, three en-suite express cruiser with an optional fourth-crew cabin and en-suite. A truly forward-thinking design with light and space at its core, the all-new Targa 58 GRAN TURISMO encompasses key design trends and technological features to offer bright, open and light-filled accommodation.

The Targa 58 GRAN TURISMO offers a new style and layout of interior cabin space from Fairline. The master cabin and cleverly designed en-suite are placed forward. This provides expansive full-width accommodation and with only the foredeck above, natural daylight floods through overhead glazing.

Where specified, the fourth cabin is ideally suited for guests or crew and features glazing in the transom to create a well-lit accommodation space with an en-suite option. The ability to include a fourth cabin is rare on an express cruiser of this size and is testament to Fairline’s design team, which has utilised space to its optimum.

The enclosed single-level living and galley space can be transformed to offer an open-air space as the roof glides open at the touch of a button and the panoramic 3m side windows retract. This allows guests to enjoy the freedom of fresh air from the galley to the transom, a feature unique on a boat of this size and price range. By contrast, when a closed space is required to shield from rain or sun, the cockpit features a powered aft sunshade.

The stern platform features an innovative, patent-pending, concealed mechanised Fairline Tender Launch option for Williams 325 Jet RIB. Another key feature at the aft deck is the powered bathing and boarding stairway.

When powered by 2 x Volvo Penta D13-800 EVC Shaft Diesel engines, the anticipated top speed of the Targa 58 GRAN TURISMO is 32 knots* and the price starts from £870,400 excluding local taxes.

Visit Fairline at berths 168 – 180 during the PSP Southampton Boat Show for further details and to view the boats on display, which includes a selection of models, ranging from the entry-level Targa 38 express cruiser to the flagship Squadron 78 CUSTOM flybridge motor yacht.

Faiirline will also have detailed plans of the upcoming Targa 50 GRAN TURISMO, which will be launched at the London International Boat Show in January 2011, as well as the Squadron 50, which is due for launch during summer 2011.

Visit www.fairline.com for further details about Fairline’s latest models and the many shows and events the company attends worldwide.

Extensive details of the Targa 58 GRAN TURISMO are annexed to this press release.
